The sash opens outward on a crank at the sill, leaving the counter side clear.

A folding crank operator at the sill turns the sash outward through a single arm on a slide track. Nothing swings into the room, so the window works above kitchen counters, in stairwells and in other places that are hard to reach.
A separate side lock on the sash holds the window shut; flip it up to release, wind the crank to open, wind back to close and flip the lock down. The crank folds flat against the sill when not in use.
